Apple iOS 17.2 Beta Update Enables Spatial Video Recording on iPhone 15 Pro for Use with Vision Pro

Apple released the latest beta version of iOS 17 and the update enables spatial video recording capabilities on the iPhone 15 Pro. The spatial video will later be able to be viewed with mixed reality devices Vision Pro which will be released in early 2024.

When launching the iPhone 15 line last September, Apple announced that the Pro and Pro Max models were equipped with spatial video recording capabilities. However, this feature is not immediately available and is promised to arrive at the end of this year.

So, through the recent iOS 17.2 Beta update, users can try out the ability to record videos with a 3D perspective using their iPhone 15 Pro. Of course, this can only be accessed by users who have registered for the Beta program.

How to Record Spatial Video on iPhone 15 Pro

To use this feature, users need to activate the “Spatial Video for Apple Vision Pro” option in the Settings application in the Camera > Format section. When you open the camera application and switch to video recording, the Vision Pro icon will appear which you can tap.

The spatial video was recorded using the main and ultrawide cameras on the iPhone 15 Pro in 1080p resolution at 30fps. Apple says that one minute of spatial video capture will require about 130MB of storage.

iOS 17.2 is likely to be rolled out to public users in November or December 2023. However, it should be noted that even though you can record spatial video with the iPhone 15 Pro, you can only enjoy the 3D experience with the mixed reality device Vision Pro in 2024.
