Apple on Tuesday introduced a new line of iPhone smartphones. The main change compared to previous generations is the replacement of the charging connector, which now complies with the requirements applicable in the European Union.
Every year in September, Apple presents new phones at a press conference, and this year was no different. Customers can expect two “basic” models iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, for more demanding users the company has prepared iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The main change that all this year’s models have undergone is a change in the charging connector under the phones. A new USB-C port is present, which has been found on phones from competing brands for several years. The change occurred, among other things, due to the regulation of the European authorities, which was also approved by the Czech government this year. “For most devices, the regulation will be valid from December 2024, for laptops from April 2026,” elaborated on the X network Minister of the Environment Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL).
The company has been using the USB-C connector on some products since 2015. Their laptops or tablets can be charged through it. In the history of iPhones, there has already been one connector change – in 2012, the wide port was replaced by Lightning.
All iPhones this year also have the so-called Dynamic Island, which hides the camera and sensors for unlocking the phone with your face in the upper part of the display. At the same time, this area is used for displaying incoming notifications and other activities. The cameras have also been changed to capture clearer images in the dark.
The edges of all models are now more rounded, the more expensive Pro and Pro Max models are also made of titanium and should thus be more resistant to falls. Also on them, the manufacturer replaced the profile switch on the side with a new button that offers more setting options.
In addition to new phones, the American company introduced the next generation of smartwatches, Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2, which can respond to the movement of hands and, according to Apple, are newly manufactured with zero impact on the environment. An updated version of the AirPods Pro 2 headphones with a replaced USB-C port has also gone on sale. The headphones can now be charged with a cable directly from the iPhone.
