Apple introduces iPhone feature that measures distance to others | NOW

With the update for iPhones released Thursday, Apple is introducing a feature that detects people nearby and measures how close they are. IOS 14.2 also contains a hundred new emojis.

The option to detect others would be mainly for blind and partially sighted people. They will then know whether there are people nearby and how close they are.

The function only works with the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, because only those devices have a necessary LIDAR sensor to make a 3D scan of the environment. Detection works through the Magnifier app on iOS. This opens the camera with the LIDAR scanner.

The feature is also useful for people who want to keep 1.5 meters away from others to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The app emits beeps when people get too close and can transmit faster vibrations when the distance is shortened.

Apple has also provided iOS 14.2 with a hundred new emojis. These include a transgender flag, a smiling face with a tear, two people hugging and various animals. Variations on existing emojis have also been added. Tailor-made suits are no longer just for male emojis, but you can also select a woman in a suit.

Apple also enables optimized charging of AirPods. This should limit the aging process of the battery so that the earbuds last longer.
