While iOS 18 brings its share of practical new features, it is Apple Intelligence that makes Apple fans want to update their iPhone.
Apple Intelligence: only 2 iPhones are compatible
The iPhone 16s are coming in just a few days, and in addition to the obvious hardware novelties like a new chip, and a slight design change, a completely new version of the software is added, making the new iPhones even more… new.
The first small hiccup in this program concerns Apple Intelligence, the AI that Apple plans to integrate into the iPhone with iOS 18. The iPhone 16 will be compatible, except that the AI will not arrive immediately. Indeed, we will have to wait until the fall to benefit from it, and only in the USA.
Apple typically releases its new software in June, and releases beta versions so developers and ordinary people can test the new features. Updates and adjustments are made until September, when the new iPhones are released, which come with the latest iOS. For Apple Intelligence, the story is somewhat different.
Apple Intelligence features like Notification Summary, Clean Up to remove items from a photo, Rewrite and Email Summary are finally available in the developer beta. Well, not all of them, and not for everyone.
Are you eligible for Apple Intelligence? Be careful, there is little chance
To benefit from Apple Intelligence, you must meet all of the following criteria:
- Own an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max. I know, it’s frustrating, but there’s no other way. Indeed, Apple has decided to allow only these two models to support Apple Intelligence, thanks to their A17 Pro chip. Of course, the iPhone 16 and later will benefit from it as well.
- Running the developer beta. In fact, anyone can download it for free. All you have to do is register on the Apple website and connect your account. This allows you to benefit from new features in advance, at the expense of a certain stability of the device. Some of Apple Intelligence’s functions are already available in beta version.
- Have an Apple account created in the USA. This is the biggest problem. Apple Intelligence is currently only available there. I’m not talking about using a VPN, which allows you to geolocate yourself elsewhere in order to benefit from the advantages of a certain country. I’m talking about an Apple account that was created with Uncle Sam.
