Apple Intelligence will soon be part of iOS 18.1, and iPhone users may need to free up some extra memory.
Here’s what we know
According to the latest iOS 18.1 beta, Apple Intelligence will require 4GB of storage on iPhone 16 and later models.
Apple announced that the new feature will be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models. Additional requirements may apply to iPad and Mac models with M1 chips and later.
Interestingly, 4GB is only the initial memory requirement for the first set of AI features. Memory requirements will increase as new features are introduced, and it is unclear how much additional memory will be needed in the future. It is possible that in the future, the memory requirement for Apple Intelligence will increase to 8GB.
iPhone users with 4GB to 8GB of storage should start making room, as limited space can cause the drive to wear out faster due to frequent writing. If you’re planning to upgrade to the iPhone 16 or 16 Pro, choose a model with more storage and avoid the 128GB variants.
