Apple increases the number of autonomous cars it is testing

After months without news about the future of Apple Car, especially given the complexity of finding a partner to manufacture it, the company has continued to develop autonomous driving tests. According to a new report, Apple’s self-driving test cars are back on the streets of California to test their technology.

According to data from the California Department of Motor Vehicles, Apple’s fleet of autonomous test cars currently consists of 68 vehicles. This quantity represents the Increase in Apple’s fleet since August 2019. The same report has provided data confirming that there were also fewer situations in which a human driver had to take over, compared to the previous year.

The Apple Car returns to the streets of California

According to information shared from AppleInsider, the number of Apple’s autonomous test drivers has dropped to 76. As of October 2020, Apple had 154 licensed drivers, which means the number has been cut by almost half.

The first months of the year began with strong rumors about the continuity of this project, of which there was no news for a while. The talks between Hyundai and Kia about the manufacture of the “Apple Car” were the trigger for a series of speculations, which died as soon as the Asian manufacturer announced the end of the talks.

Other sources have confirmed that Apple has entered into similar discussions with other manufacturers, still to no avail. And although as usual from the bitten apple they remain hermetic with their future projects, well-known voices from the world of technology dare to affirm that Apple will solve any inconvenience to materialize the Apple Car and will present it before the end of this decade.
