In the case of Bloomberg, Apple and Hyundai reported that they had stopped discussing the development of the’Apple Car’, while the Wall Street Journal reported that “Kia Motors is ready for production.” Previously, CNBC announced that “Apple and Hyundai-Kia Motors are in the final stages of discussing the development of the’Apple Car’.”
Bloomberg News reported on the 5th (local time), citing multiple sources, saying, “Apple has recently temporarily suspended consultations on consignment production of’Apple Cars’ that have been conducted with Hyundai Motor Group.” The sources, who requested anonymity, said, “Apple is discussing similar plans with other automakers besides Hyundai and Kia.”
According to reports, the negotiations have stalled as Apple protests against some of the Hyundai Motor Group’s approval of the EV project negotiations.
At present, it is known that it is unclear when the negotiations between the two sides will resume. Also inside Hyundai Motor Company, there is a controversy over whether to participate in the Apple car project, Bloomberg said.
Bloomberg predicts that if the two sides resume negotiations, the Kia Motors plant in Georgia, USA, will likely produce Apple cars.
On the contrary, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that early morning, “Kia Motors had contacted potential partners for the assembly and production of Apple cars at a plant in Georgia, USA.”
According to WSJ, Hyundai Motor Company is discussing plans to start producing Apple cars from 2024 as early as Kia by investing 3 billion dollars (about 3.4 trillion won) in negotiations with Apple.
According to foreign media, Apple is conducting negotiations on Apple cars with other automakers in addition to Hyundai Motor Company. It is known that similar negotiations with six major Japanese automakers including Toyota, Nissan, Honda, and Mitsubishi.
Earlier, the US economic media CNBC reported that Apple is in the final stages of negotiations with Hyundai and Kia. However, the media said that the actual production of Apple cars could be delayed more than in 2024, and that there is a possibility that other automakers besides Hyundai and Kia may participate in the negotiation stage.
It is known that Apple wants control over not only software but also hardware in the development of this self-driving electric vehicle. According to CNBC, it is predicted that Apple cars will not be the way to install Apple software on Kia models.
