Apple Halts Sales of Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 in US Due to Intellectual Property Dispute

Apple said it will temporarily halt sales of two of its latest Apple Watches in the United States due to an intellectual property dispute over its “blood oxygen” feature.

The surprise decision came in response to two orders issued by the US International Trade Commission on October 26 that would restrict Apple’s ability to sell products that use the “blood oxygen” feature after an intellectual property dispute between Apple and medical technology company Masimo.

Customers in the United States will not see a change in their ability to purchase either watch until next Thursday. Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 sales will end online Thursday at 3 p.m., and in stores after Sunday.

The White House had 60 days to review the restrictions, according to ITC policy, or until December 25, but Apple said it began the pause early to ensure it would comply with the order if the ITC ruling stood.

CNBC indicated that people who have already purchased either of the two Apple Watches in question will not experience any issues with their product, according to Apple, and there is no change in the availability of either model outside the United States.
