JAKARTA – Apple has sanctioned senior engineering program director Ashley Gjøvik on indefinite administrative leave after tweeting about sexism in the office. Apple is currently investigating Gjøvik’s allegations of a hostile work environment.
“For months I have voiced concerns about Apple employee relations over years of experience with sexism, hostile work environments, sexual harassment, unsafe working conditions and retaliation. “Gjøvik said in an interview with The Verge.
“I asked them to reduce the hostile work environment while they investigated, and they first offered me EAP therapy and medical leave. I told them it didn’t make sense and said they should talk to my leaders and establish surveillance and restrictions. I added that if there was no other option, they could give me paid administrative leave. They didn’t seem to be trying to set limits and instead said they were putting me on administrative leave and hinted that they didn’t want me in Slack where I had expressed my concerns about some company policies.
They also hinted that they didn’t want me to meet one-on-one with other women at the company about their concerns about Apple’s policies, which I did.
Gjøvik made a non-use post to his colleagues that the employee relations team had placed him on paid leave indefinitely.
This is the second time that Apple has investigated Gjøvik’s allegations of gender discrimination within the company. The employee relations team closed the investigation earlier, concluding that nothing was wrong. This prompted Gjøvik to tweet a screenshot with what he said was only a fraction of what he experienced.
