Apple fixes scanner issues in macOS, but when?

The printer and scanner have become essential devices in many homes where people work from home. It is therefore extra difficult that certain scanners seem to work poorly under macOS. When starting a scan, an error message appears stating that there is no permission to use the application. Apple now says it will fix this problem in the near future.

A new support-pagina on Apple’s website describes the problem. The page states that some macOS users are getting an error when they try to use a scanner in the macOS apps Fotolader or in the Printer & Scanner Preferences in the system preferences.

The error message states that you do not have permission to open the application, followed by the name of the scanner driver. The message says to contact your computer or network administrator for assistance. A message may also appear indicating that your Mac was unable to connect to the device (error -21345).

Apple says it is working to fix the issue. Until then, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Close all open apps.
  2. Choose Go→Go To Folder from the Finder menu bar.
  3. Type /Bibliotheek/Image Capture/Devices and then press enter.
  4. In the window that opens, double-click the app mentioned in the error message. It is the name of the scanner driver. Nothing should happen when you open it.
  5. Close the window and open the app you used to scan.

A new scan should now proceed normally. If you later want to scan from another app and get the same error message, repeat the steps above.

But when?

For those struggling with this issue, there’s one more disappointing announcement: Apple hasn’t announced when the bug fix will appear in macOS.
