Apple fixes battery problems with latest iOS update

Apple names the ‘unexpectedly large loss of battery charge’ as the first point in the explanation of the latest update.

It is unknown how widespread the battery problem was. Shortly after the release of iOS 15.4, some users did complain on Twitter, where the Apple Support account informed them advised 48 hours of patience while apps ‘adapt’ to the update.

Vulnerability

The update also fixes a bug in AppleAVD, a component of iOS and iPadOS for video playback. Through that so-called zero-day leak, malicious parties could execute arbitrary code with kernel rights: in short, that means unguarded access to the crucial heart of the system.

Installation is recommended

According to Apple, there are indications that the vulnerability is already being actively exploited. Users are therefore advised to install the update as soon as possible.

In addition, the update fixes two bugs in accessibility features: Braille devices should no longer crash and the connection to hearing aids should no longer be lost.

iOS and iPadOS users can find the update in the settings, under ‘General’ and ‘Software Update’.
