Apple finds a VP Industrial Design after a year of shortage

If there is a department that has fundamental importance at Apple compared to its competitors, it is design. Long the preserve of Jony Ive, he has experienced multiple departures since his departure in 2019, with many employees deciding either to follow their boss or to retire.

Molly Anderson was, among other things, responsible for the new iPads. Apple image.

Thus, Evans Hankey took over from Ive as Vice President of Industrial Design (or VP of Industrial Design in Shakespeare’s language) until the very beginning of 2023, before leaving in turn… to join Ive at LoveFrom . The branch has become so empty over time that Apple, failing to find a replacement, put industrial design directly under the control of Jeff Williams, COO (Chief Operating Officer) of Cupertino.

However, things seem to be getting better, and Apple has found a person to put at the head of this very important little group. According to Mark GurmanMolly Anderson, to whom we owe, among other things, the latest iPads would have had the favor of Tim Cook, taking the famous position of VP of Industrial Design which has been empty for more than a year.

Still, times are difficult for Apple’s design department, which should see several more departures and other movements, not to mention that its weight has drastically decreased since Ive’s departure, giving more power to engineers on this occasion. It is now up to the new vice president to assert herself in her position.
