A common problem when you buy the very latest tech is that you run into all the bugs and glitches that have been missed by the testing performed by the manufacturer. The iPhone 12 has been out for barely two months and here, too, various owners have already encountered various problems. The recent measurement concerns batteries that discharge faster than expected.
The iPhone 12 also does not seem to escape boot bugs. Several users have reported on the Apple Support forum that their batteries drain quickly even when not in use. The problem was first brought to Apple’s attention on October 25, but several users – including here on the OMT forum – have reported in recent days that they are experiencing the same problem.
At first, the original poster thought this may be due to an extra power consumption of the 5G modem. The user then switched off mobile data usage. However, he saw little to no difference in battery drain when he wasn’t using his iPhone 12. Other posters also reported the problem of their iPhone 12 battery draining faster. This also happens to them even if all apps are closed and background app refresh is turned off in the settings.
iPhone 12 battery can drain without being used
One owner, whose iPhone drained a whopping 40 percent overnight, said Apple ran diagnostics on the phone and checked everything. However, the engineers couldn’t find anything wrong with the iPhone. That means that there were no discernible hardware malfunctions and thus the problem appears to be software related. In principle, that would be good news, because then the problem can be solved with a software update.
The bad news is that Apple has indicated that it does not yet know what is causing the excessive drain. The company has therefore not yet announced a timeline for a solution or software update.
More issues with the iPhone 12
Apple’s iPhone 12 has been facing several issues since its launch on October 23. Less than a month after its release, owners began to complain about a “screen malfunction” causing a green or gray glow on what should otherwise be a dark or black screen. Apple already has this iOS bug solved.
Yesterday, many iPhone 12 users reported that 5G and LTE signals were lost. Apple has also indicated to this issue that it does not yet know what is causing the loss of cellular coverage.
We just hope that Apple will soon come up with an iOS patch that fixes the aforementioned problems, so that these users can enjoy a flawless iPhone experience again.
