Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – After the iPhone blocking drama in China, Apple is faced with a new case in France. French authorities claim the 2020 iPhone 12 emits high radiation, beyond the threshold set by the government.
Therefore, Apple was asked to stop marketing the iPhone 12 in France. The French Institute for Food, Environment and Health-Safety (ANES) found that the iPhone 12 exceeded the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) limit by 4.0 watts per kilogram.
When tested, the radiation emitted by the iPhone 12 and absorbed by the user was 5.74 watts per kilogram, quoted from ReutersThursday (14/9/2023).
SAR is a measurement indicator that calculates the amount of radio frequency power absorbed by the human body through the use of a cellphone.
Currently, ANFR has ordered a special team to investigate whether the iPhone 12 is still being sold on the market. According to French authorities, this radiation problem can be solved if Apple issues a software update. If not, the iPhone 12 will have to be withdrawn from the market permanently.
Apple Denies Accusations About iPhone 12 Emitting High Radiation
Responding to this, Apple claims that the iPhone 12 series, which was launched in 2020, has received certification from several international institutions.
Apple denies that the iPhone 12 emits high radiation. According to the Cupertino manufacturer, the iPhone 12 complies with global radiation standards.
Furthermore, Apple said it had submitted several laboratory results of iPhone 12 radiation testing carried out by the company. This document is proof that the iPhone 12 complies with French regulations.
The French government said Apple’s tests used different methods to ANFR standards. ANFR radiation testing has so far resulted in 42 blockages in France.
This is the first time Apple has been impacted by such testing.
