Apple Event Timeline: From Lisa to AirPods to the Vision Pro

Here’s a timeline of some of Apple’s most famous events:

1983: Lisa’s debut

The first WWDC was held in 1983, and at the time, it was called Apple’s Independent Software Developers Conference. Attendees got a glimpse of the first personal desktop computer with a graphical interface, named “Lisa,” after co-founder Steve Jobs’ daughter.

1984: Mac debuts

Apple first introduced the Macintosh computer at an event in 1984. The Mac featured a graphical user interface, known as a GUI, and a navigation mouse.

1997: Jobs returns

When Steve Jobs returned to Apple in 1997, he walked on stage during a keynote speech to thunderous applause. He had co-founded the company two decades earlier, but was fired by the company’s board of directors in 1985. His return led to a shift in Apple, which was facing bankruptcy at the time.

1998: The first iMac was introduced

Apple’s introduction of the first iMac in 1998 was a hit with event attendees, and with its colorful design and ease of use, the iMac was the first computer that “looked cool and wasn’t enterprise-focused.”

1999: Wi-Fi demo

At a 1999 event, Jobs gave a demonstration demonstrating the iBook’s Wi-Fi capabilities, picking up the laptop and walking around while browsing the web.

2011: iPod unveiled

During an intimate event in 2001, CEO Apple Jobs unveiled the iPod. The pocket-sized product moved people away from CD players to MP3 players, and then to today’s ubiquitous music streaming.

2007: Unveiling the first iPhone

When Jobs unveiled the iPhone in 2007 and described it as an “iPod, phone, and Internet connection device” in one, conference attendees were “stunned.” The iPhone remains Apple’s best-selling product.

2010: iPad unveiled

Apple unveiled the iPad in 2010, and the keynote audience was surprised to learn that it was only $499, about half of what many people expected. Also, at that year’s event, Jobs demonstrated FaceTime for the first time.

2011: The emergence of “Cook”

Tim Cook took over as Apple’s CEO in 2011, following the death of Steve Jobs. At that year’s event, Cook introduced the Apple Watch, a new product category for the company. Cook used Jobs’ catchphrase “one more thing” during the ad.

2016: AirPods debut

Apple unveiled the wireless AirPods in 2016 after the company announced plans to remove the headphone jack from its iPhones.

2023: Mixed reality headset

At the 2023 WWDC conference in June, Cook unveiled the Vision Pro, the company’s first mixed reality headset. This was Apple’s first major product release since the Apple Watch, and the headset is expected to be released in 2024 at a price of $3,499.
