Apple Doubles the Price of the 16 GB RAM Option for the 1.4 GHz MacBook Pro

Apple charges much more for the 16 GB RAM option for the 1.4 GHz MacBook Pro. For the moment, only the basic version is concerned, but the market for RAM experiencing a fever fever, it is not insane to think that this increase may eventually affect other Macs.

Upgrading from 8 GB to 16 GB of RAM now costs € 250 for the first MacBook Pro with two Thunderbolt 3 ports (€ 1,499), against € 125 previously. Nothing changes for the MacBook Pro at 1,749 €, for which this option still costs 250 €. No change either for the 16 GB option for the MacBook Air, which remains charged at € 250, or for the various options for the 16-inch MacBook Pro (read our MacBook Air or MacBook Pro guide?).

This substantial increase in the price of the option for the entry-level MacBook Pro alone slightly degrades the price / quality ratio of this configuration, which now amounts to € 1,749 instead of € 1,624. The same price as a MacBook Air with 512 GB of storage and 16 GB of RAM, knowing that the MacBook Pro only takes 256 GB of storage.

The price of RAM has been rising steadily since the start of the year, relieves BusinessKorea. The 8 GB of DDR4 thus increased by 11.9% between April and May: it is the first time since April 2017 that the price of RAM has recorded a double-digit increase. The price of flash memory remains stable.
