Apple discontinues device management Fleetsmith

The device management software Fleetsmith was taken over by Apple in the summer of 2020 and continued to be operated. Now the former customers have to look for a new solution, because Apple has announced that it will discontinue the MDM solution.

New registrations for Fleetsmith will no longer be accepted as of April 21st. Existing customers can still use Fleetsmith functions until October 21, 2022, after which it will no longer be possible to log in to fleetsmith.com – and the delivery of configuration profiles will be discontinued.

With Fleetsmith, companies could manage and centrally control the configuration of their Apple devices. Apple has included the functions in the new service Apple Business Essentials, with which device management runs over Apple’s infrastructure. This is suitable for companies that want to simplify their IT processes, but not for those that want to outsource this administrative data. Unfortunately, the on-premises solutions are often associated with subscriptions and are only worthwhile for very large companies.

Do you manage the Apple devices for your company via an MDM solution? What do you use, what are the advantages of your specific approach? Feel free to write something about it in the comment fields below this message, we are very excited and think that other readers are also very interested.
