Apple cuts iPhone SE production by 20%

Apple introduced the latest iPhone SE earlier this month and it’s on sale now. However, it seems that the company does not expect it to work as well as it hoped.

According to a new rumor coming out of Asia, Apple is telling various suppliers that it intends to cut production orders by 2-3 million units for the second quarter of this year (the first starting in April and ending in June). This apparently means that it wants to make 20% fewer iPhone SE (2022) units than initially planned.

“Sources have seen the matter,” he said. Nikki thing Blame for the move is due to looming global inflation, as well as the war in Ukraine, which “began to weaken demand for consumer electronics.”

Apple has also reportedly cut orders for AirPods by more than 10 million units for all of 2022, apparently anticipating “tepid demand” for the earphones and wanting to reduce stocks. Last year, Apple shipped 76.8 million units of AirPods, according to data from Counterpoint Research. With the new production cut, total shipments for 2022 may see a drop.

Apple is also said to have asked suppliers to produce 2 million fewer iPhone 13 phones (across the range) than previously planned, but this adjustment was explained by seasonal fluctuations in demand and nothing more.
