Apple has long struggled with beaks and claws so that repairs of the company’s products should only be carried out by authorized workshops.
Therefore, it is more or less a sensation that Apple now announces that it will soon be free for private individuals to repair their mobile phones and computers on their own.
The new program is called “Self Service repair” in Swedish and first out will be as a regular user in the US. But already next year, the program will be rolled out in more countries, including Sweden.
In short, the program allows individuals to order original parts, tools and manuals directly from Apple. If the replaced parts are sent back, customers receive a discount on the next purchase.
Initially, only parts for Iphone 12 and Iphone 13 will be offered, but soon it will also be possible to order parts for Mac computers with Apple’s own chip. What the prices end up with remains to be seen.
