Apple could launch the iPhone subscription this year

Apple unveiled its new iPhone 14 line. They are the most expensive iPhones ever: in the Netherlands even the cheapest model starts with a suggested retail price of over 1000 euros. Many people spread the high price of smartphones by getting them with a subscription from a telephone operator. An option will likely be added soon: Apple itself is also working on a subscription model for the iPhone.

The new service could start this year, relationships Mark Gurman, usually Bloomberg expert. Apple would definitely not redeem the price of an iPhone in 12 or 24 parts with its subscription. The amount is yet to be determined, but the approach would be to keep customers for as long as possible for a fixed amount per month.

Always the latest model

Apple may want to offer subscribers the ability to upgrade to the latest iPhone model every year. Perhaps the subscription would also apply to other products that Apple renews annually, such as the iPad and Apple Watches.

For the new hardware subscription, Apple would expand and combine two existing subscriptions. First Apple One, currently a combination of iCloud, Apple Music, Apple TV + and Apple Arcade. Second, Apple Care, which provides users with additional support and coverage for paid defects and accidents. All of these things would likely be included in the new iPhone subscription as well.

According to Gurman, Apple may want to introduce the new subscription this year and otherwise early next year.

AppleCare + with unlimited repairs

Apple also extended the terms of its AppleCare + subscription last week. Previously, subscribers could get a covered iPhone repaired up to twice a year at a reduced rate with Apple Care +.

There is now no upper limit and users can visit Apple indefinitely, for example for a broken screen. Apple speaks of “an unlimited number of accidents caused by an accident”. Theft is expressly excluded from AppleCare + coverage.

However, there is still a deductible. For example, AppleCare + subscribers pay 29 euros for a new display, without subscription such repair costs with the new one iPhone 14 Pro for example 405 euros. The new regulation doesn’t seem to apply just to iPhones, but to all Apple gadgets customers have taken AppleCare + with.
