According to one of the last notes to investors produced by the prolific and generally well-informed Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple could introduce a new iteration of its iPad with a new screen size.
An enlarged iPad and iPad mini
This tablet intended for the general public and sold at an affordable price would indeed be equipped with a 10.8-inch panel, compared to 10.2 currently. But what will remain with the smallest of the iPad Pro and especially with theiPad Air and its 10.5 inches?
This format will certainly be new in the iPad family, which remained confined for a long time to 9.7 inches of the first models, before evolving towards larger displays of 10.2, 10.5, 11 and 12.9 inches.
For its part,iPad mini may also update and see a larger screen. He would abandon his traditional diagonal of 7.9 inches for a slab whose size could oscillate between 8.5 and 9 inches.
In both cases, the question is whether Apple would revise the design of its tablets so as not to enlarge the case too much. This would involve reducing the borders around the screen and finding an alternative to the current Touch ID, still present on consumer models of the Apple tablet.
Rumors refer to new technology fingerprint sensor that could work under the screen. Maintaining the borders would then be useless.
As for the iPhone SE
The star analyst also indicates that Apple could follow the same strategy as for theiPhone SE 2020. Namely to put forward an affordable and rather attractive price while integrating into its products the best of its chips. Will it be the Apple A14, which will likely be introduced with the iPhone 12, or a version of the Apple A13, which is found in iPhone 11, 11 Pro and this ? Ming-Chi Kuo has no details on this point.
According to him, the largest model should be announced in the second half of this year, while the replacement for the iPad mini may not be announced in the first half of next year.
A point on augmented reality glasses
Finally, the analyst returns to the Apple Glasses, the supposed augmented reality glasses that Apple’s engineers are currently working on.
For him, they could be announced in 2022, a year earlier than what The Information revealed late last year. This new device will define a new range of products for Apple, so it will obviously be expensive, even if Ming-Chi Kuo is taking for the moment – and logically – no risk and does not announce any price.
