According to him, the move allows more than a billion people to continue using lightning cables instead of throwing them away and creating piles of electronic waste. However, due to the regulations enacted by the EU, Apple has no choice but to abide by the rules.
“We have no choice as we do anywhere in the world other than to abide by local laws,” he said.
Also, Joswiak didn’t say if Apple was just making several variants for the European market, while continuing to sell phones with lightning cables elsewhere. He said Apple thought the approach would be better for the environment and for its customers.
Earlier, Apple also mentioned environmental concerns for not selling power adapters with new devices. The tech giant said it would save 861,000 tons of metal and save fuel by doing so.
