Apple confirms Mac event for next week, with M4 models planned

Apple Inc. is planning a week of announcements related to the Mac computer line, marketing executive Greg Joswiak said in a social media post.indicating that highly anticipated models with the new M4 chip are on the way.

“Mac, mark your calendars. We have an exciting week of announcements ahead, starting Monday morning. Stay tuned…” he said on X, formerly Twitter. Although Joswiak did not specify which products Apple will launch, Bloomberg News has reported that the launch will include the first Macs with M4 processors.

The M4 chip was first announced in May as part of the latest iPad Pro and features improvements to AI task processingas well as general speed increases in the CPU or central processing unit. The Macs that will arrive next week with the chip will be the iMac, MacBook Pro and Mac mini, according to Bloomberg News.

The company’s artificial intelligence platform, called Apple Intelligence, will also debut next week. The software will be released as part of iOS, iPadOS and macOS updates starting October 28, according to Bloomberg News. The M4 chips will be especially suited to running AI functions, although the software will also work on current Macs.

The base version of the M4 chip will come to the iMac, a lower-end 14-inch MacBook Pro, and the entry-level Mac mini. A higher-end Pro variant will be included in a more premium version of the new mini model. The top-of-the-line MacBook Pro will feature higher-performance versions of the M4 chip.

Although the new iMac and MacBook Pro models will look similar to the current ones, Mac mini will get its first major external redesign in more than a decade. It will be much smaller and closer to the size of the Apple TV. Additionally, at least some versions will have five USB-C ports for connecting accessories.

For the first time in several years, Apple will also update its Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad accessories. The new models will replace the Lightning port and use USB-C for chargingas part of a broader change driven by European Union regulations.

The Mac launch will mark the company’s second product launch event this fall, with the company unveiling the iPhone 16new Apple Watch and AirPods updated in September.
