On Tuesday, at 7 p.m., an Apple conference will begin, devoted mainly to new devices. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event will take place online, exceptionally without an audience, at the Steve Jobs Theater.
iPhones 12 – the great unknown
For many years, the most important point of the September conference was the presentation of new iPhones. This year the situation may be different. There is information that smartphones will be shown at an additional conference, planned for October. The main reasons are delays in deliveries and slower factory efficiency caused by the ongoing pandemic.
It should be noted, however, that we are dealing with unofficial information. Yes, they come from sources that are highly effective in predicting Apple’s plans, but they are not infallible. There are also mishaps – e.g. iOS renaming announcement. Yes, the company of Tim Cook confirmed the delays sales iPhones 12but didn’t mention anything about the day they were presented.
It is worth noting that at least iPhone X was presented at the September conference, and its sale did not start until October. On iPhone’a XR we also had to wait longer. Therefore, the premiere of “The Dozen” next Tuesday should not be ruled out.
What can we count on in this year’s Cupertino smartphones? There will be no revolution, but the list of changes is quite interesting. According to leaks, Apple will show:
- Four smartphones, two cheaper – iPhone 12 5.4 inch and iPhone 12 Max 6.1 inch, as well as two more expensive variants – iPhone 12 Pro 6.1 inch and iPhone 12 Pro Max 6.7 inch.
- All iPhones are to be equipped with a 5G module, as well as screens made in OLED technology. There is talk of 120 Hz screens in the Pro variants, although this is not a sure thing.
- Notch, the characteristic notch, is unlikely to disappear. It will probably still be as big as on the iPhone X.
- Each model will have an Apple A14 chip, made in 5 nm technology. It will most likely be the most powerful processor installed in smartphones.
- Refreshed design – the rounded sides will be replaced with sharper edges, inspired by the iPhone 4 and iPad Pro.
- The Face ID system will still be the only biometric security. The appearance of the Touch ID fingerprint reader on the screen is unlikely.
- An island with cameras is to be placed on the back, similar to the one from the iPhone 11. The cheaper variants will receive two cameras – the main 64 Mpix and the ultra-wide angle, the Pro line versions will have three cameras – the main 64 Mpix, ultra-wide angle and telephoto lens.
- The night photo mode is expected to be improved, the zoom will be increased – 3 or 5x optical zoom and over 10x digital zoom.
- The Pro models will feature a LiDAR scanner, already used in the iPad Pro.
- iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max will get 4 GB RAM, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will get 6 GB RAM. Each model is supposed to boot with 128 GB of user files.
- The boxes will be noticeably slimmer – EarPods and chargers will be missing.
Sales of new iPhones are expected to start in October or November. It is possible that they will be introduced in two batches – the 6.1-inch variants will appear first, i.e. the iPhone 12 Max and iPhone 12 Pro, followed by the other two versions, i.e. the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The prices are to be as follows:
- iPhone 12 128 GB – $ 649, or about PLN 3300-3500,
- iPhone 12 Max 128 GB – $ 749, or about PLN 3600-3800,
- iPhone 12 Pro 128 GB – $ 999, or about PLN 5000-5200,
- iPhone 12 Pro Max 128 GB – $ 1099, or about PLN 5500-5700.

iPad Air, the cheaper version of the iPad Pro
Experts in disclosing Apple’s plans agree on two premieres in September – refreshed iPad Air and Apple Watcha series 6. Before we move on to the new smartwatch from Cupertino, or rather two new Watchs, skupmy out on the tablet. Tim Cook’s company is preparing major changes for the iPad Air, which will eventually not receive an outdated housing and design.
This year’s new iPad Air is:
- Design clearly similar to the iPad Pro – slim bezels, no rounded sides, and no home button under the screen.
- 10.8 inch LCD screen.
- Interestingly, despite the lack of a home button under the screen, there is to be a fingerprint reader on board. Touch ID is to be integrated with the power button. It probably means no Face ID.
- USB Type-C instead of the Lightning connector and an additional Smart Connector.
- Optionally, you will be able to buy a Magic Keyboard, which will provide physical and backlit keys, as well as a trackpad.
- Prices are expected to start from $ 649, so it will be noticeably more expensive than the current generation, priced at $ 499 on the day of release.
Apple Watch series 6 i Apple Watch SE
This year, instead of one Watch, Tim Cook’s company has present two basic variants. The first to replace the outdated Series 3 will be much cheaper, but will be stripped of some features. The second is a top model, successor zeszłorocznego series 5.
Here’s what we found out from the leaks:
- Both Apple Watches will receive a design similar to Series 4. The introduction of a round case is unlikely. A new color version will appear.
- Each Watch will be available in two sizes – a 40mm and 44mm case. You can choose between “GPS only” and LTE versions with eSIM support.
- You should expect a newer, faster and more energy-efficient processor.
- Apple Watch, tentatively referred to as Apple Watch SE, will not offer EKG and Always on Display.
- The displays will be made in OLED technology.
- The Force Touch technology, i.e. the detection of pressure on the screen, may be missing.
- The Touch ID fingerprint reader will appear, most likely integrated with the physical crown.
- Blood oxygen measurement function.
- Fast charging option possible.
The sale is to start on September 15, so immediately after the conference. Prices are unknown.
Apple conference – other news
The company is to prepare other premieres, which will be announced next Tuesday. It is possible that we will then see:
- Apple One – the announcement of “packages” containing the company’s various services, which together will be available at more attractive prices.
- New on-ear headphones that will not be released under the Beats brand.
- A smaller version of the HomePod.
- AirTag locators.
- The new generation of Apple TV.
- Additional information about iOS 14, iPadOS 14, macOS Big Sur, watchOS 7 and tvOS 14 – we will probably know the release dates of the final versions.
