As part of its efforts to expand semiconductor manufacturing in the United States, Apple today announced that longtime partner Amkor will package some Apple chips at its new plant being built in Peoria, Arizona. The company will invest about $2 billion in this facility, which will employ more than 2,000 people after construction is completed. Apple’s chips themselves will be produced at the nearby TSMC plant.
“Apple is deeply committed to the future of American manufacturing, and we will continue to expand our investments here in the United States. Apple COO Jeff Williams said in a press release today. – chips “Apple has unlocked new levels of performance for our users, allowing them to do things they could never do before, and we’re thrilled that Apple chips will soon be manufactured and packaged in Arizona.”
In a press release today, Amkor announced that it expects to begin limited production at the new plant over the next two to three years. The company plans to provide funding for the project under the US federal government program.
Amkor has been packaging the chips used in all Apple products for more than a decade. Information about the specific range of semiconductors that will be packaged at Amkor’s new Arizona facility is not yet available.
