Thomas Moyer, Apple’s security officer, is suspected of bribery. He allegedly offered local authorities two hundred iPads in exchange for unregistered firearms permits, it appears reporting of the police in the US state of California.
The undersheriff and a Sara Clara County agent have struck a deal with the Apple executive, according to a two-year investigation by authorities. Moyer, according to the information, agreed to supply two hundred iPads to obtain firearms permits for Apple employees.
The iPads together were worth $ 70,000 (about $ 59,000). According to authorities, Moyer promised to ship the iPads, but that never happened because the undersheriff involved and Moyer got wind of the investigation.
The suspects will be heard on the case in January next year. Those involved can face jail sentences if found guilty.
According to Moyer’s lawyer, the Apple CEO is innocent. According to him, his client’s suspicion is “collateral damage” in a bribery case at the hands of authorities. “We have no doubt he will be acquitted.”
Apple also conducted its own investigation and found no evidence of Moyer’s wrongdoing.
