There has been a lot of talk lately of the Apple Car project (Here is our summary) and in particular of the possible agreement with the Hyundai Group for the production ofself-driving electric car. We know that in the end there was no agreement and at the moment Cupertino’s future plans in this area are not really clear. Sooner or later Apple Car will probably come but BMW doesn’t seem to care that much.
Indeed, the CFO Nicolas peter said he was sleeping soundly about the possibility of Apple entering the automotive sector.
Competition is a wonderful thing – it helps motivate others. We are in a very strong position and we want to remain in a leadership position in this sector.
According to the CFO of the German carmaker, BMW, as well as other premium brands, has all the necessary resources to invest in new technologies. These statements are yet another demonstration of confidence on the part of the manufacturer after a 2020 in which Tesla has grown a lot and has stolen space from “traditional” brands. After all, as the CEO stated not too long ago Oliver zipse, the American manufacturer will have a hard time continuing to grow at the same speed given the arrival on the market of many more electric models by other car manufacturers.
Returning to Apple, many analysts had pointed out that the arrival of a tech company of this caliber could have revolutionize the automotive sector. BMW, however, does not seem to agree. The car world is complex and it is very different from that of smartphones or computers. It is true that Cupertino would not work alone as it is looking for suitable partners but the debut of its car will certainly not be an easy undertaking. After all, even Volkswagen basically agrees with BMW.
The CEO of the Volkswagen Group, Herbert Diess, had stated that the automotive industry is not the typical tech sector in which you can take over in no time. For the number one of the German group, Apple will not be able to manage it overnight.
