After months of silence they rain interesting news about the Apple Car project. Just yesterday the indiscretion that Cupertino was about to launch its innovative car had emerged already in September 2021. The news came from Taiwanese sources claiming that suppliers were already preparing to produce parts for this vehicle. The timing, however, had made many turn up their noses because they were deemed unlikely both given the problems related to the pandemic and to what had been known up to that moment about the Apple Car project.
In the wake of this news comes a new report from Reuters which claims Apple is pursuing its self-driving car development projects and that such a vehicle is expected to be ready by 2024. A car which will be electric and that it will have “revolutionary” battery technology. There are not many details and the 2024 target may not even be met. The timing, the source reports, will depend a lot how the health emergency will evolve. In case of delay, the car could only debut in 2025 or even later.

There is also the possibility that Apple can resize your project to focus only on autonomous driving technology to be then transferred to third parties. On the battery front, Apple would be focusing on a new battery design that would increase autonomy and reduce costs. Apple is also exploring the possibility of using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells. Cupertino would then rely on some external companies to supply some key components for autonomous driving such as LiDAR sensors.
It is not clear who would then build the car. The report shows that Apple does should entrust to a partner for production. In the past, the name of Magna International had been made but then nothing more was known. Apple declined to comment on the Reuters report.
