There has been a lot of news lately about Apple’s car project, Project Titan. At one point it was speculated that Apple may have considered scrapping the entire project, while recently there have been some revelations that indicate the opposite – that Apple is now working harder on it than ever before.
The boss has chosen a new direction
Bloomberg writes in a report that Apple is accelerating the work on the mythical car that has been talked about for several years, without us having seen anything tangible from the company itself. According to the report, what has given new life to the optimism within the company to complete the car is the fact that Kevin Lynch has been given the role of new project manager.
Lynch is said to have advocated developing a completely autonomous, self-driving car rather than what would become something Tesla-like where you actively drive yourself, but have a good solution for autopilot when needed. The report also claims that Apple should ideally have been apart of both pedals and steering wheel, with a consequent consequence that the interior had a completely different focus in the design phase, where the car can now be designed without taking into account a driver environment.
Intensifies the work with the car
Another piece of information that emerges from the Bloomberg report indicates that Apple has tightened the schedule properly: Lynch is said to have set a goal of finishing the car that is in development by 2025, in four years.
This is somewhat faster than original estimates, where earlier this year expectations were set for the car to be ready between 2026 and 2028. The reason for the shift may be due to the fact that Apple has recently reached a major milestone by completing the basics of self-driving technology, and that the development of the chipset to be used in the car is largely complete.
