Apple blocks employee chat on equal pay

Apple employees use the Slack tool to communicate internally, however, a new report says that the apple brand prohibited a group of company workers from creating a chat channel on this platform to advocate for equality in salary matter.

The problem is because Apple has specific rules for the channels that your employees can create within corporate Slack. And according to a statement delivered to The Verge, the channels must be related to the work and “the mission of the departments and teams of Apple”.

In the wake of the situation, there are two issues that come to light. One is that a lawyer associated with labor issues is quoted by the outlet in question saying that for Apple it is a good excuse to say that a channel whose conversation revolves around equal pay breaks the terms of use of Slack in the corporate environment.

“Discussing wage issues in the United States is protected by federal, state and local laws,” says attorney Vincent White.

But the other problem is that apparently there are already Slack channels that have nothing to do with issues related to the operation of Apple. Therefore, there are valid questions about whether what Apple is doing is blocking any discussion regarding the difference in salaries between men and women, especially between those who are at the same hierarchical level.

According to a previous report, a director of marketing Apple can earn up to $ 240,000 annually, while the same charge in its senior version reaches $ 325,000.

However, the legitimate question remains whether these salaries are similar according to gender.
