TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Apple is likely to bring ‘always-on display‘ from iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max which is scheduled to launch this year. According to a report by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple will introduce this feature through iOS 16, which allows the iPhone to still display certain information on its locked screen even if it is locked.
Gurman said, the version of ‘always-on‘ from iPhone might work similarly to what it makes on Apple Watch Series 5 and up–iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will drop lock frame rate screen with enabling mode always-on while allowing it to save energy while the screen remains on.
It’s not clear if the new iPhones will use the screen low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) is the same as that used by Apple in its latest smartwatch models. This low-energy screen plays a big part in always-on mode can work, as they are designed to keep the device from consuming too much energy.
Last year, analysts predicted that the iPhone 13 would come with this type of screen, LTPO, for the above purposes. Predictions are made because a number of Android devices already support always-on mode. On Samsung, for example, with always-on displays, they can still show the time (clock), battery level, widgets, and more even when the phone is locked.
Gurman predicts iOS 16 will come with the same functionality, including wallpaper with “widget-like capabilities”. But, ‘always-on display‘ is not the only feature exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Apple is set to announce a number of other changes at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 6.
In line with previous predictions, Gurman believes Apple will also introduce a window opening feature and multitasking which is amplified again on the iPad. He called the findings of Steve Troughton-Smith, developerit wasn’t long ago that Apple might be working on a feature that could allow its users to freely resize windows.
Apple could also reload some of its apps — in addition to the new audio feature in Messages, Apple will update the System Preferences menu to make it more like the Settings app on iOS. With WWDC a week left, there’s no need to wait long to confirm the changes.
