Apple is giving the 2020 version of its iPad Air a new design, similar to that of the iPad Pro models. The screen grows to 10.9 “and has a resolution of 2360×1640 pixels. Apple puts its new 5nm made A14 Bionic-soc with six cores in the tablet.
Just like the iPad Pro gets the new iPad Air a usb-c connection. This allows the tablet to be charged with 20W. The 2020 iPad Air has the same dimensions as the 2019 model, but a larger screen with a higher resolution. The screen is laminated, can display the dci-p3 color space and has an anti-reflective coating. Apple’s True Tone technology is also present.
Due to the narrow screen edges, there is no longer room for a Touch ID button on the front. Apple is now integrating it into the power button on the side. Although the sensor is smaller, according to Apple, it performs just as well as current implementations.
Apple equips the iPad Air with the A14 Bionic-soc. It is the first time in a long time that Apple has put its latest soc into an iPad rather than an iPhone. Supposedly, the same soc is coming to the iPhone 12 series next month. The A14 is made at 5nm and has six CPU cores. The new processor makes the iPad Air 40 percent faster than the previous generation, according to Apple, and the GPU is 30 percent faster. The previous iPad Air contained an A12 Bionic-soc.
The cameras of the iPad Air will also be upgraded. On the back is the same 12-megapixel camera as in the latest iPad Pro models, with an f / 1.8 lens and 4k movie function at 60fps. The camera can also record slow-motion footage at 240fps. The front camera has a 7-megapixel sensor, Smart HDR support and can film in 1080p at 60fps. Apple promises better low-light performance.
The new iPad Air is compatible with accessories such as the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard. The tablet will be released in five different colors at the beginning of October, for a price from 669 euros.

Apple also presents one new version of its cheapest iPad. The eighth-generation model retains the design of last year’s iPad and is therefore not yet making the switch to USB-C. The hardware will be upgraded to the A12 Bionic-soc, which was an A10 Fusion. According to Apple, the A12 is 40 percent faster and has twice as much GPU computing power.
Both new iPads run on iPadOS 14, the new version of the operating system will be released on Wednesday. The software includes improvements for the use of the Apple Pencil. The new entry-level model of the iPad is on sale from Friday for at least 389 euros.
