The number of activated iPhone units reaches a stratospheric figure in one of Apple’s best years for sales.

The results announced by Apple are simply impressive, but require minimal clarification.
Along with the accountability of the last quarter of 2020 (first quarter of the fiscal year for Apple), the company led by Tim Cook has added another figure no less impressive to the 111,000 million of revenue. Last year at this time they spoke of 900 million but now they have announced 1,650 million iPhones activated.
Activated, iPhone activated
The figure was expressed by Apple’s chief financial officer, Luca Maestri, but a small clarification should be made. Last year around this time Maestri himself offered similar data, clarifying that in January 2019 Apple was aware of the existence of 900 million activated iPhones out of a total of 1,400 million activated iOS devices. Those other 500 million devices would be iPads or iPod Touch.
Now that figure of 1,650 million refers to activated iPhones, which allows us to calculate that in one year Apple has sold around 750 million units of its iPhones, just at a time when the range of new devices is greater than ever, with five alternatives, the four variants of the iPhone 12 plus the new iPhone SE.
In addition, a good level of sales of the previous models, the iPhone 11 and XR, is still maintained. Therefore we are talking about a catalog with up to seven models that would explain the increase in sales by having a greater variety of options for the buyer.
In an interview Tim Cook recognized that much of this considerable growth is due to great demand pull from China, where there has been a record update of users of previous models after the presentation of the new iPhone, one of the most successful terminals of the brand, as we have recently told you here in SILICON.
