While the iPad Pro begins to be seen in the first reviews of those to whom Apple sends devices so that they can take their videos, Apple has introduced a new functionality that it already introduced in the iPhone 12 through which iPadOS can now be updated over a 5G network.
With the launch of the iPhone 12, the first to have 5G connectivity, Apple added extra functionality to iOS to allow the operating system to be updated while connected to a 5G network. Since last Friday, Apple reported in its support page that this same functionality is now also available to users of the iPad Pro 2021 (the only ones with 5G connectivity), thus being able to update iPadOS.
The support page, titled “Use 5G on your iPad”, explains to users how to manage data connectivity on their 2021 iPad Pro models. In a data modes section, it is noted that users can now configure the ‘Use more data in 5G’ option on iPadOS.
By selecting this option, the iPad is allowed to use more data in its system tasks as well as in some app functionalities, like enabling higher image quality through FaceTime when making video calls. This will also enable the possibility of updating iPadOS through a 5G data network.
Apple also warns that the functionality may come by default for those users with an unlimited data rate and depending on which operator, but it can always be enabled manually in the following way:
- Open the app Settings
- To open Mobile data and later Options
- To select “Data mode”
- Enable «More information on 5G«
Thus, we can always keep our device updated despite the fact that we do not find WiFi (something that, if we have availability to connect to a 5G network, it will be a strange case). One more new functionality for an iPadOS that, little by little, begins to become a much more powerful operating system to turn the iPad into a total tool and with the capacity to replace the PC in many of the tasks.
