Apple has been focusing on trying to use as many dedicated components as possible for its products, and this also applies to the modems that are present in some of the company’s devices.
According to newspaper sources The Wall Street JournalApple expects to use its dedicated modem in about 80% of iPhones sold on the market from 2023 onwards. This measure is part of the company’s plans to use as many dedicated components as possible, avoiding the need for third parties to such.
If this measure is confirmed, then 20% of the iPhones sold in 2023 would have Qualcomm modem chips. Remember that rumors are not recent that the iPhone 15 line should have a dedicated 5G chip from Apple, completely setting aside the need for Qualcomm components to do so.
It should also be noted that the company may also apply the same measure to other products that use this kind of chips, such as the Apple Watch, iPads and others, but which have a lower sales volume. The focus for now will be on the iPhone line, which is the company’s main source of revenue and where the highest sales are recorded.
As you would expect, Apple leaves no comment on this point.
