Guadalajara, JalThe Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation dismissed as inadmissible the appeal (SUP-REC-1196/2024) filed by the former candidate of Movimiento Ciudadano for reelection to the municipal presidency of Tlaquepaque, Citlalli Amaya, which definitively ratified the victory of the Morena candidate Laura Imelda Pérez Segura in the last elections of June 2.
Through a statement from Morena, it was specified that the decision of the TEPJF is related to the dissatisfaction presented by Citlalli Amaya due to the alleged harm caused to her aspirations by the statements made by Cardinal Emeritus Juan Sandoval Íñiguez, who asked through social networks not to vote for parties that are “against life”, which in the opinion of the cherry party was not directed against MC but rather against Morena.
“This is the last resort and therefore the decision is final. The election will not be repeated, it is unappealable, it confirms what has already been said: MC was not affected by these statements, there will not be a repeat election for this reason, or anything like that, our victory remains firm,” said Pérez Segura.
Citlalli Amaya’s legal team, headed by Rafael García, who was president of the Municipal Council three years ago when the election was annulled precisely because of similar statements by the Catholic cardinal, said that there are other challenges yet to be resolved and therefore it is false that the complaint has been resolved.
“It is a matter of days before the Guadalajara Chamber of the TEPJF rules in favor of Citlalli Amaya and MC Jalisco (…) The sentence simply indicates that the religious minister will not be sanctioned, but at no time does it resolve the results of the Tlaquepaque municipal election,” García Íñiguez posted on social media, who in addition to being Amaya’s electoral defender appears on the municipal directory as head of Public Policies of the current orange administration of Tlaquepaque.
He added that the trials that will determine whether the election is annulled and repeated are JRC 247/2024 and JDC 589/2024 “which are still under analysis” and said that on Wednesday “a hearing was held where the judges listened to our compelling arguments.”
