Amir Mirmotahari was sentenced by the Borgarting Court of Appeal to eleven years in prison, for having entered into agreements to kill a former client and kidnap a rape victim. There was a sharpening of the sentence of ten years from Oslo District Court.
The lawyer thought the verdicts were so similar that he thought it was a procedural error, and therefore appealed the case to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court believes that the Court of Appeal has dealt with the case thoroughly and on an independent basis, and therefore rejects the appeal, writes NRK, which first mentioned the case.
The criminal case against Mirmotahari started in June 2016, after that VG revealed that he asked the torpedo Raein Rueintan to kidnap the victim in a rape case. The former lawyer was the defender of one of the rapists.
The torpedo conversation was recorded on audio, and the recording revealed that the goal was to keep the victim away from the upcoming trial – and in that way get the entire rape case dropped.
Mirmotahari closed down his law firm and was arrested by the police the day after VG’s revelation.
Convicted of a number of offenses
The former lawyer has also been convicted of:
- Witness influence
- Opposition to the judiciary
- Violation of contact ban
- Violation of confidentiality
- Violation of court decision
- Contribution to incorrect explanation
- Several economic conditions
