Apparently Safe! BPOM Releases Test Results for Syrup Drink by Kidney Failure Patients

Jakarta

The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) of the Republic of Indonesia revealed the results of tests on all samples of the syrup consumed by patients with acute kidney failure. This test has been carried out from 2-3 February 2023.

The Director for Drug, Narcotics, Psychotropics and Precursor Production Supervision of BPOM, Apt Dra Togi Junice Hutadjulu, MHA, stated that all samples met the requirements and were still safe to use as long as they were used according to recommendations.

“That the test results show that all the tested samples meet the requirements. This means that the medicinal syrup meets the daily intake threshold requirements so it is safe to use as long as it is according to the rules for use,” said Togi in a press conference statement Wednesday (8/2/2023).

To get these results, there are a series of steps that are carried out. Starting from examining the remaining drugs taken by patients to the raw materials used for related drugs.

Some of the samples tested are:

  • Samples of patient’s leftover drug syrup
  • Syrup samples from circulation
  • Syrup sample from the production site with the same batch number as the sample number consumed by the patient
  • Sample the syrup with the batch adjacent to the patient’s drug syrup sample
  • Samples of sorbitol raw materials used in production raw materials
  • Another syrup sample

Apart from that, BPOM is also conducting investigations into production facilities related to good drug production methods (GMP). As a result, it was found that the industry concerned complied with the GMP.

“The results of all the sample tests are qualified,” said Togi.
