SPACE — On October 11, 1968, Apollo 7 was launched into space with NASA astronauts Wally Schirra, Donn Eisele, and Walter Cunningham. This was the first mission of the Apollo program to take a crew to space.
Apollo 7 restarted the Apollo program after a fire killed three astronauts during launch practice 20 months earlier. NASA needed to prove that the Apollo spacecraft could carry out the mission, which was still a test flight.
Although the spacecraft appeared to be functioning well, the crew encountered various problems during their 11 days in space. First, they suffered from motion sickness after launch, then Schirra came down with the flu, and the crew was constantly arguing with mission controllers and each other.
What they did was considered a bit impudent. None of the Apollo 7 astronauts returned to space after that. Source: Space.com
