SulutZone.com – Apollo 16 Astronauts Returned from a Successful Mission to the Moon on April 23, 1972.
The Apollo 16 mission ended when astronauts John W. Young and Charles M. Duke returned to Earth after an incredible time on the moon.

This mission is a historic milestone in the human exploration of outer space. After three days of exploring the Descartes platform site on the Moon, Young and Duke successfully launched from the lunar surface using the Orion Lunar Module.
They were joined again by their colleague, Thomas K. “Ken” Mattingly, who had been running experiments from lunar orbit using the Casper Command Module.
During the Apollo 16 mission, Young and Duke made three surface walks aboard the Lunar Roving Vehicle.
They collected important samples of lunar rocks and soil, and placed the first telescope on the Moon.
Meanwhile, Mattingly made observations and photographs from lunar orbit. After returning back to Earth, the astronauts experienced a memorable moment when Orion’s Lunar Module entered Earth’s atmosphere and successfully landed safely in the Pacific Ocean.
