Thunderstorms hit many cities in Turkey and especially Istanbul over the weekend.
The Directorate of Emergencies and Combating Natural Disasters of the Presidency (AFAD) warned of heavy rainfall in 21 provinces, including Istanbul and Ankara. “Be alert to disasters such as flooding, flooding, lightning, hail and storms,” the message said.
After these warnings, the weather in the metropolis began to deteriorate. The sky above the city was initially lit up by numerous flashes of lightning, then a torrential rain fell.
Drivers and pedestrians experienced a heavy rainy evening. Many sewage manholes overflowed the streets in the Sultangazi district, vehicles were difficult to move. Drivers in the central areas of Taksim and Mecidiyeköy were also barely crawling. Rainy weather disrupted traffic across the city.
