APL Everton – Brentford 1:0. The fourth dry victory of the Toffees in the last five matches

English Premier League, 35th round

“Goodison Park” (Liverpool)

Chief Referee: Darren England

If we take into account the results in the last five matches only, “Everton” is among the top three teams of the EPL along with “Manchester City” and “Arsenal”. Dych’s wards have won four times without conceding in any of these matches. There was only one failure – defeat by “Chelsea” 0:6. But here an unwritten desire worked: it is better to lose once 0:6 than six times 0:1.

Today, the Toffees faced their neighbor in the standings, who was one step higher before the match. However, already in the first half, “Everton” took a decent initiative in attacking moments. Despite this, none of the teams managed to break into the opponent’s goal area before the break.

But immediately at the start of the second half, the fun started. At the 51st minute, the moment finally appeared for the captain of “Brentford” Tony – Pickford saved. After another three minutes, McNeil scored from Gartner’s pass and hit the crossbar.

In the 60th minute, “Everton” opened the score in the meeting. At first, the Toffees did not get a pass from the corner – the guests fought back. The second-tempo attack was also not sharp, but the “bees” could not properly carry the ball. Guye was the first to pick up the ball, who beat everyone with a shot into the left corner of the goal.

In stoppage time of the second half, Everton once again hit the crossbar – this time it was Gartner. “Brentford” had no real chance to win back. Yarmolyuk, who played 15 (including extra time) minutes after coming on as a substitute, did not help. Vitaly Mykolenko was not included in the application for this match due to injury.

“Everton” overtook “Brentford” in the standings. If we speak purely in terms of numbers, the Toffees have guaranteed themselves participation in the Premier League next season. With three rounds to go, the gap from the relegation zone is 11 points. However, who knows, maybe points will be deducted from the team again for violating FFP rules.
