Four script writers and a film crew took up the challenge of making two films in 24 hours on June 18. They did that in the so-called Open Film Team. In it, amateurs and professionals work together as a team on fiction films. After a lightning-fast writing process by the script writers at the workplace Plek Apeldoorn, the film crew of the team started filming the first story. They found the filming location for this further down the Zwitsalterrein: Stadsstrand Soap.

One of the team members was Apeldoorner Daan van ‘t Einde. “Plek seemed to us an ideal starting point. Nicely central and easily accessible by cars and public transport. That there is a cycle around the corner where team members last-minute props being able to search also helps, of course,” says the director.

Exotic destination nearby

In the story, a father tries to pair his (adult) daughters with a flirt a few tables away while on vacation. For the story, which has a unique twist, the film team looked for an exotic destination nearby. Daan: “I knew city beach Soap and when the script started to take shape, we went there with some production members to see if it would indeed fit.” They were open to such a last-minute film crew at Soap. The film was shot in a few hours.

two movies

In the end, the Open Film Team shot two short films that day, which will be distributed online and at film festivals. Anyone who thinks that the films are inferior to films that have been worked on for months is wrong. “For example, we previously made a 48-hour film that competed in film festivals against graduation films that had taken six months to complete,” says Daan. “In a competition like this, the trick is to keep the story manageable and to make smart choices as a team. That way you can still make a full-fledged short film in a short time.”
