APCVD Registers 19 Legalized Cheerleading Groups, Including Super Dragões with 4000 Members

Authority for the Prevention and Combat of Violence in Sports (APCVD) has registered 19 organized groups of fans

The Authority for the Prevention and Combat of Violence in Sports (APCVD) has registered 19 organized groups of fans, seven of which are from clubs in the first tier of Portuguese football.

Confirmation was given by the organization to Lusa, noting that three were suspended or canceled at the request of the clubs and two others were suspended due to non-compliance by the promoters.

Legalized cheerleaders, legally called GOA, were obliged to be constituted as associations and registered by clubs with the APCVD, after the legislative change to reinforce mechanisms to combat violence in sport, published in August 2023.

The APCVD also reported that the 19 supporters – seven from clubs in the League, five from League 2, three from League 3 and many others from the Portuguese Championship – declare a total of around 5,300 fans.

The Super Dragões, a fan base linked to FC Porto, are the ones that registered the most members, totaling four thousand. The remaining emblems of the first tier of Portuguese football with legal GOA are Boavista (281 members), Sporting (179, from Brigada Ultras Sporting, without there being a protocol with Juve Leo or Director XXI), Estrela da Amadora (157), Rio Ave ( 56), Famalicão (51) and Gil Vicente (46). The suspensions for non-compliance by the clubs concern the supporters of Vitória de Guimarães and Arouca, while Chaves and Sporting – lions in relation to Torcida Verde – are the cases where registrations were suspended at the request of the promoters. Nacional, Tondela, Marítimo, Aves SAD and Feirense, from League 2, Sanjoanense, Caldas and Lusitânia de Lourosa, from League 3, and Vitória de Setúbal (protocols with two supporters: VIII Império and Ultras Grupo 1910), Tirsense and Beira-Mar , from the Portuguese Championship, are other clubs with legal cheerleading squads.
