The Authority for the Prevention and Combat of Violence in Sport (APCVD) this Monday instituted an «indemnity proceeding» following the incidents in the basketball game between Benfica and Sporting (the eagles won by 99-86), in Luz , in which the referee of the match accused basketball player Ivan Almeida, from Benfica, of wanting to attack him.

Initiation of administrative offense proceedings – (SL Benfica x Sporting CP)

In view of the news published in the media regarding incidents in the game between Sport Lisboa e Benfica and Sporting Clube de Portugal, at Pavilhão Fidelidade – Complexo Desportivo at Estádio Sport Lisboa e Benfica, counting for the 6th matchday of the Group The – 2nd Phase of the Men’s Betclic League, a competition organized by the Portuguese Basketball Federation, the Authority for the Prevention and Combat of Violence in Sport (APCVD) has instituted a process to determine any resulting administrative offences.

If there are indications of the commission of criminal offenses, the APCVD will forward to the Public Prosecutor’s Office all the files and information that may be useful for the pursuit of justice, taking into account the competence of the judicial authorities for the investigation of criminal matters.
