There was a heavy fire last night in an apartment complex in Tønsberg, the police in the South-East report.

– There have been heavy flames in the apartment complex, which has seven apartments in total, operations manager Tommy Eriksen tells VG just before 03:00.

He says that the fire brigade got control of the fire at 02.43.

– The smoke divers have gone through all rooms on all floors. One person is confirmed to have suffered burns, while another has been extracted by the smoke divers. The person is conscious, says the operations manager.

All those involved will be sent to emergency room or hospital for check-up and treatment.

– I woke up to hear glass breaking and someone shouting in the street. Then I got up to see what happened, and then I saw an orange light, says Bjørnar Malm (27).

He lives in the building next door to the burning apartment complex, and had to go out on the streets himself on the night of Friday.

– It was just a matter of getting up and getting out, he says.

When VG talks to Malm just before 4 o’clock, he and the other neighbors have been allowed to enter their homes again.

The situation at the scene was unclear in the minutes after the police received information about the fire at 02.25.

– There are a lot of fire crews working at the site, and the situation is unclear for the time being, said duty manager at the fire service’s 110 center in the South-East, Martin Slevigen, to VG at around 02.40.

The police’s operations manager Tommy Eriksen says that the building has suffered extensive damage. It is currently too early to say anything about the cause of the fire.
