JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Last week, there was a lot of news about PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BRI which will soon shift their operations to Aceh Province.

That’s because of the application deadline Qanun Number 11 of 2018 which is getting closer. The regulation requires every financial institution in Serambi Mekah to apply sharia principles.

Financial institutions are also given three years to make a transition from the time the regulation is promulgated. This means that they still have until the beginning of 2022.

Apart from BRI, several bank others have also made the transition and closed their operations in Aceh. These banks are:

1. CIMB Niaga

CIMB Niaga left Aceh earlier than BRI. CIMB Niaga Consumer Director Lani Darmawan said the bank’s branch office has been a sharia branch office since 2019. Overall, there are two branch offices owned by CIMB Niaga in Aceh. Both are located in Aceh and in Lhoksumawe.

“Our branch in Aceh has become a Sharia Branch since 2019. So there is no need for conversion and fully operational Sharia branches,” said Lani to Kompas.com, Sunday (19/4/2021).

2. BNI

Another state-owned bank that also immediately left Aceh is BNI. On a separate occasion, Deputy Director of BNI Adi Sulistyowati explained, currently there are 26 conventional branch offices that have been converted into sub-branch offices of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI).

“Accordingly, conventional offices BNI in Aceh currently there are only six conventional branches left, “said Adi to Kompas.com.

The transition process carried out by BNI was carried out in stages. Adi said, for this April there are planned to be four more branch offices that will be converted into BSI branch offices.

Meanwhile, the other two branch offices will be closed until the end of the year.

3. Bank Mandiri

Bank Mandiri Corporate Secretary Rudi As Aturridha said that his company had also transferred most of its assets in Aceh Province to BSI.

To Kompas.com He said, until March 2021, there were 34 branch offices out of a total of 47 branches Bank Mandiri in Aceh has been transferred to BSI.

“We are optimistic that we can complete the transfer of all Bank Mandiri branches to BSI before this year ends,” he said.

4. Panin Bank

Unlike other banks that decided to shift their business to the sharia business, Bank Panin chose to actually leave Aceh.

Although the company has a subsidiary in the field of Islamic banking, namely PT Bank Panin Dubai Syariah Tbk (PNBS), it has chosen to develop its subsidiary through technology optimization. The plan is for the closure of Bank Panin’s operations in Aceh in June 2021.
