Anwar Ibrahim he said his top priority after becoming Prime Minister (PM) was to restore Malaysia’s economy. Anwar Ibrahim also refused to accept a salary as prime minister.
“I am grateful that today and before, the situation and investor confidence has changed. The ringgit has strengthened and the stock market has recovered,” he said. Anwar Ibrahim at a press conference after being sworn in as prime minister of Malaysia as reported Malay MailFriday (11/25/2022).
Anwar hopes the Malaysian economy will recover soon. As the economy revived, he said, the Malaysian people would be protected.
“Now let’s focus on the economy and do whatever it takes to boost it so that the well-being of people, especially the poor and marginalized, is protected,” he said.
Anwar also stressed his promise not to receive a salary as prime minister. He said he is focused on restoring people’s trust in the government.
“I announced that the first step to regaining people’s trust is for them not to see ministers and leaders, regardless of party, regardless of belief, all as those who only think about salaries, interests, contracts, shares,” said Anwar.
“Therefore, I have chosen to decline a salary as prime minister,” he added.
Anwar was named the 10th prime minister of Malaysia on Thursday (24/11) yesterday after being sworn in before Malaysia’s King Yang of-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
