Malayalam cinema has been getting good response from the non-language audience in recent times. It increased after the popularity of OTT. Now the famous Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap has come out praising the latest movies in Malayalam. He noted that he had seen Manjummal Boys and Bhramayuga and was jealous of Malayalam directors. Anurag’s response was through Letterboxed, a social networking service.
Anurag Kashyap says about Manjummal Boys – “Great filmmaking from mainstream cinema, with extreme confidence. Far better than any other big budget filmmaking in India. Such confidence, seemingly impossible storytelling. I wonder how one would pitch this story in front of a producer and get approval.” “Such ideas about Hindi cinema can only be remade. If you look at three recent Malayalam blockbusters, Hindi cinema is far behind”, notes Anurag.
Anurag’s reaction after watching Bhramayug is- “I am so envious of Malayalam directors. Their filmmaking is empowered by their courage, adventure, and a great understanding audience. I am extremely envious. And Mammootty… what has he done… he is my core. Next on the list”, notes Anurag.
