Merkel wants to use the German Presidency of the Council of the European Union to make progress in the field of climate protection. In addition to De Wever and Charlier, the Swedish Greta Thunberg and the German Luisa Neubauer will also be present at the conversation with the Chancellor.
Last month, the four climate youth called on the European heads of state and government to take urgent measures to prevent a climate disaster. In an open letter they demanded, among other things, the cessation of investments and subsidies in fossil fuels.
The letter was signed by more than 120,000 people, including 22-year-old Pakistani human rights activist Malala Yousafzai and numerous celebrities such as Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio.
